Good Type has a new site


Good type is a series of workshops with a focus on lettering design. Established in 2010 in Berlin and periodically organized in and out of Germany, it has already welcomed over 150 attendants who want to learn more about typography. Held by letterer and designer Martina Flor it is tailored for beginners as well as for those with previous experience who want to improve their techniques to draw letters.

Funktioniert Schriftgestaltung heute? Beispiele aus Praxis und Lehre (Does type design work today? Examples from industry and education)

Through the middle of August, »ON–TYPE. Texte zur Typografie« (ON–TYPE. Texts on Typography) exhibition is running at Berlin’s bauhaus-Archiv. For the accompanying program, Bernard Stein and Florian Hardwig have organized a one-evening lecture series, which will focus on type design teaching methods. They have invited Martina Flor, Martin Wenzel and Dan Reynolds to speak on Wednesday, July 24. These speakers will present different aspects of current design practices from various art schools and design programs around the country. The event begins at 7 pm; there is an entrance fee of €6 (€3 for those eligible for a price-reduction). bauhaus-Archiv members and students may attend for free.

Type Talk: Martina Flor @ Berlin Apple Store


This Friday, July 19th, come see Martina Flor talk about “the art of lettering” and her particular tools and techniques to create custom lettering. It’s free and at an awesome venue. Lettering vs Calligraphy • The Exhibition

Coming to Mota Italic tomorrow, the dynamic duo of Martina Flor and Giuseppe Salerno will show their first complete alphabet after three months of gruilling battles.

The opening is from 7pm with a short talk by Martina and Giuseppe at 7:30.



Lettering vs Calligraphy

Lettering vs Calligraphy is a project by Giuseppe Salerno and Martina Flor. It consists of a visual dialogue between a letterer and a calligrapher, where they draw/write a letter responding to a keyword given by a moderator. The adventure aims to explore the capabilities of the two technical approaches. It delivers one letter daily and takes place online, where the visitors are invited to vote for their favorite.
