Type In Berlin

Type & Sound 2: MEEK.FM Typographic Synthesizer incl. Paint-speed-dating

via: Letters Are My Friends

______________

Dear lovers of type & tech,

Welcome to the second part of our Type & Sound series.

We’re still running Roland Lößlein’s impressing interactive installation “Digging in the Crates” (see our blog for more details!) in our showroom, but gonna release another interactive inimitable synthesizer installation by Rob Meek & Frank Müller. Yes!

The famous MEEK.FM typesynthesizer modulating music synced to type. - It is the only one-of-its-kind, and has been shown at the Typo2007 and some other festivals, but since then disappeared in a bookshelf of his createurs. It is just the right time, to resurrect it.

What else is happening on this one-time AM / PM event?!

Due to this unique date “11.11.2011-11Uhr11” Letters Are MyFriends want to invite you two times at this day at 11.11 a.m. / p.m. -sharp- to come over to our showroom, each time for a special paint-speed-dating session limited to 5 minutes.
This means: we are playing music and in the meantime all participants - separated in two people vis-à-vis - are drawing on the same paper. Dedicated to get known your counterpart better, it is meant to show off your personal typetype and at least your name. ;)

Aside from all of this Ingo Italic, will also create a new fassade painting over our frontwindow.

So there are many reasons, why you should definitely join us next friday, even if the installations run till mid of december.
We looking forward to meeting you!
Yours Letterfriends Gerrit Grotesk, Ingo Italic & Bärbel Bold

Letters are my Friends - Subletters Wanted!

desk

via: Letters Are My Friends

Bärbel Bold, Ingo Italic, Rico Rockwell and Gerrit Grotesk are looking for one more typeaffine ‘Subletter’ for LettersAreMyFriends - which is the first typographic concept store of its kind, focused on type meets new technology!

We’re having a beautiful renovated workspace (80qm) right between Kotti, Hermannplatz & Graefekiez with a showroom. And a concrete desk for you! Internet and Insurance included.

Wanted: likeminded co-working creatives who share our passion for the well-dressed alphabet vs. new technology. We ‘re looking for fellows who not only share the room with us in a symbiotic way but who bring some excitement for and the willing of connecting to our letters are my friends-concept. Read more about us here:http://www.lettersaremyfriends.com

This means, they need to be anyway addicted to type, design (no matter what kind of design), new media -like we are-, and want to push this theme in a extraordinary way. We like open minded people with a grounded feeling for work and life and appreciate working experience (not a must) and reliabilty for a long time relation.

October Typostammtisch

Don’t forget, this Thursday (in two days) is the 27th Berlin Typostammtisch at the Max und Moritz restaurant. It will feature 6 of the 2011 KABK graduates and their type designs. It starts at 19:00, there is plenty of good food and drink to be had, as well as usually 40-50 of Berlin’s most friendly typeaholics.

The official announcement from Ivo:

Dazu sei recht herzlich eingeladen.

Sharing some of the studio’s best-kept secrets, Ken will introduce participants to letter-drawing basics, various production techniques utilized to create sophisticated letterforms, and an instructional demonstration on how to digitize and vectorize analog lettering. Participants will take what they’ve learned and apply these hands-on techniques to design their own custom wordmarks.

Just Another Foundry moves to Berlin

We’re pleased to welcome Tim Ahrens and Shoko Mugikura of Just Another Foundry to Berlin. Last week they relocated to sunny Friedrichshain from gloomy old London.

Tim is an awesome type designer and programmer of many incredible typefaces, the Font Remix Tools, a handy text generator, and he also happens to work with Typekit. Shoko is a talented graphic/book designer who has been getting deeper into type while collaborating with Tim on several of their new designs.
