Well, it’s not quite a finissage, or end of the year party, or holiday party… it’s just one last event at Mota Italic for 2012.
Lettering vs Calligraphy is a project by Giuseppe Salerno and Martina Flor. It consists of a visual dialogue between a letterer and a calligrapher, where they draw/write a letter responding to a keyword given by a moderator. The adventure aims to explore the capabilities of the two technical approaches. It delivers one letter daily and takes place online, where the visitors are invited to vote for their favorite.
Fellow typographic comrade Alexei Vanyashin is visiting Berlin and offered to share with us his talk titled "Why do we (still) use Cyrillic?". As seen at the TypoLublin conference a few days ago, this impromptu talk will enlighten you about modern Cyrillic and it’s continuing importance.
“Chromeography” celebrates the metallic emblems that gave names and life to vintage automobiles, domestic appliances, and other consumer objects. Curated by Stephen Coles, this collection of photos and physical chrome emblems tells a fascinating story of the changing trends and ideals of the last hundred years simply through metal lettering.
Please join us Friday, November 16th from 6pm for the opening reception. Stephen will be on hand to answer all your questions about anything chrome lettering to font identification.
And as always, there will be plenty of free drinks and loads of new books and typographic goodies to check out!
The opening party is tomorrow, Friday November 15th, from 18:00.
The show runs from November 15th – December 22nd.
After a very full last Typostammtisch (75 people!), there will be another one with the topic of legibility. Florian Adler and Albert-Jan Pool who are involved in the Normungsausschuss DIN 1450 will presents their research and norming suggestions.
Date: August 22, 2012
Location: Max & Moritz, Oranienstraße 162, 10969 Berlin

Content vs. Form
A Collaborative Poster Clash
exhibition w/ pseudo election party
Thursday 19th July 2012
At Letters Are My Friends
On 19th of July the two parties Content & Form are competing visually and interactive at Letters Are My Friends’ typographic concept store: The collaborative exhibition CON<>FORM deals with the subject of conceptual contentdriven editorials versus free-form based graphic design within the setting of a politically incorrect debate: are content and form contradictory or complimentary?
Live now… Stephen Coles speaking about letters on cars at Berlin’s 10th Creative Mornings talk. Updates later…
Nice job Stephen! That was an interesting and entertaining talk about chromeography.com.
And we must agree, the coffee by the mobile Electric Espresso bar is excellent. Certainly worth the ticket price :)
Fontblog has a nice little writeup of the event already (in German).
